NYC Care
You may qualify for this program, available

with a NYC Health + Hospitals nancial counselor,
a MetroPlus health plan representative, or going

Other Coverage Options
Medicaid for the Treatment of an
Emergency Medical Condition
This coverage, sometimes called Emergency
Medicaid, helps eligible, undocumented,
and temporary immigrant New Yorkers get
care and pay for medical costs when they have
a medical emergency.
Family Planning Extension Program
This program covers all women and adolescents
who lose their Medicaid eligibility after the end
of pregnancy and who don’t have other health
insurance coverage, regardless of immigration
status. This covers all forms of birth control,
emergency contraceptive services, preventive
screenings, STI and HIV counseling, testing, and
treatment, and pregnancy counseling and testing.
Coverage begins 60 days after giving birth and
provides up to 24 months of care.
New York State of Health
Insurance Options
Child Health Plus
Regardless of your immigration status, if you are under
the age of 19, you may qualify for this coverage. This
program provides children with health care for free or
at low monthly premium depending on income. There
are no copayments for services.
Medicaid for Pregnant Women
Regardless of your immigration status, if you’re
pregnant, you may qualify for Medicaid. You will need
to provide proof of identity, income and residency.
This program helps you receive prenatal care and
other services such as lab tests, HIV tests, nutrition
screenings, related to pregnancy and other medical
care covered by Medicaid. Coverage lasts until at least
two months after delivery for the parent and the baby
is insured for up to a year after birth.
Essential Plan
The Essential Plan is a free or low cost health plan
for eligible adults who don’t qualify for Medicaid or
other coverage. You may qualify if you are a New York
resident and have a valid student visa. Deferred
Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and
undocumented immigrants are not eligible for the
Essential Plan.
Qualied Health Plans
Qualied Health Plans are private health insurance
plans. They provide essential health benets and
follow established limits on deductibles, co-payments,
coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum costs. The
American Rescue Plan expanded nancial assistance to
lower your monthly premiums for Qualied Health Plans
when enrolling through NY State of Health.
New York makes it easy for international
students to get health coverage and
care. You can get more affordable health
care when you have health insurance.

medical care at Health and Hospitals
Corporation, Department of Health
and Community Health Centers.
